Executive Director of Strategic Negotiation Services

Post-Secondary Employers’ Association (PSEA)
Vancouver, British Columbia

July 28th, 2023

The Post-Secondary Employers' Association (PSEA) is the employer bargaining agent for all public colleges, special-purpose teaching universities, and institutes in British Columbia. These nineteen institutions constitute the BC Post-Secondary sector. They are governed by the College & Institute Act and the University Act, respectively.

PSEA is part of a broader, centralized labour relations infrastructure that was established by the provincial government in 1993 to support government in setting a provincial bargaining mandate consistent with its fiscal goals, while providing employers with a degree of autonomy. PSEA is one of six public sector employers’ associations in BC.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Executive Director of Strategic Negotiation Services (“ED”) works closely with the CEO, member presidents and HR leads, and government partners to provide strategic direction and coordination in the delivery of labour relations and collective bargaining services to PSEA’s 19 member institutions. The Executive Director also provides leadership and direction to PSEA’s labour relations team.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record of success leading collective bargaining, on behalf of a public sector employer or, ideally, a group of employers. This individual will have had significant experience in a senior labour relations capacity with direct responsibility for providing labour relations advice and direction to senior leaders. This highly motivated leader will also have extensive experience in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and labour relations research. Leading a small and effective team, the ED will have an opportunity to act in strategic consideration of enhanced approaches or different models for delivering related services to members.

Working with a great team in a highly supportive and collaborative environment, this role is perfect for a strategic, highly organized, self-directed and collaborative leader with a passion for strategic negotiations.

This position is based in Vancouver, BC on a major public transit route, and offers the option of a hybrid work schedule.
